A window air conditioner unit is essentially engineered to fit through a standard window, this type is preferred by many as it essentially doesn’t take up any interior space of the room and fits in with the décor pretty easily.
Installing a window air conditioner is pretty easy as it involves removing the window cover and mounting the AC and securing it.
The main components of the air conditioners are:
- Compressor
- Condenser coils (hot coil)
- Evaporator coils (chilled coil)
- Fan units
- Thermostat unit
Basic Operational workflow
Step 1:
- When you turn on the AC the thermostat in it sends 120 volts of electricity to the compressor
Step 2:
- The compressor compresses the gas into the compressor coils where the gas turns into liquid
- The condenser coils lets out heat as the hot fluid passes through them, this is why the rear end of the AC releases hot air during operation
Step 3:
- From here the fluid reaches the evaporator coils (located in the front of the air conditioner) where the fluid expands into a gas which makes them cold hence air passing through is cooled and sent out as chilled air into the room
Step 4:
- Side by side a fan motor rotates and draws in air to be cooled by the evaporator coils
- The other fan draws in air from outside to cool the hot coils in the back
Step 5:
- The thermostat assembly is in charge of the regulating the temperature
Note: There may be water collected at the bottom of the AC, which is normal during operation.
